The University of Applied Arts Vienna offers two subjects for teaching in secondary schools (levels I and II), tertiary education, and other professional fields. Both subjects (1. Art and Communicative Practice / UF Art and Design, 2. Design, Material Culture, and Experimental Practice / UF Technology and Design) are based on artistic processes and teaching approaches – their core consists of artistic, media- and technology-related, creative, and educational practices. These artistic-educational approaches, ways of thinking and acting are interwoven with scientific methods in the course of study – with the two subjects focusing on different aspects of cultural activity. When the curriculum refers to “art/artistic practices,” this encompasses the entire spectrum of fine and applied arts (including architecture, design, fashion) as well as the broad field of visual/digital cultures.
The skills and meta-skills involved in artistic and cultural production, reflection and communication, and creative articulation are essential components of a comprehensive education that aims to foster personal development and active participation in social life. KKP works with a concept of artistic (digital) education that promotes dialogue with the world and explores how this relationship can be imagined in the present and realized in the future. The University of Applied Arts is committed to a school that takes appropriate account of the potential of artistic, anti-discriminatory, and cultural education.
